Geometry and Mensuration aptitude questions
Geometry and Mensuration questions are part of the Quant section of placement aptitude tests. Sketch the shape and label known lengths before substituting into a formula. Below are 5 worked examples with the answer and the working; practise ten fresh ones or take a timed mock when you are ready.
Example 1. A triangle has a base of 22 cm and a height of 11 cm. What is its area?
- A. 242 sq cm
- B. 33 sq cm
- C. 121 sq cm (answer)
- D. 484 sq cm
Area of a triangle = (1/2) * base * height = (1/2) * 22 * 11 = 121 sq cm.
Example 2. A circle has a radius of 14 cm. What is its circumference? Use pi = 22/7.
- A. 176 cm
- B. 44 cm
- C. 616 cm
- D. 88 cm (answer)
Circumference = 2 * pi * r = 2 * (22/7) * 14 = 88 cm.
Example 3. A circle has a radius of 28 cm. What is its area? Use pi = 22/7.
- A. 1232 sq cm
- B. 2464 sq cm (answer)
- C. 4928 sq cm
- D. 176 sq cm
Area = pi * r * r = (22/7) * 28 * 28 = 2464 sq cm.
Example 4. A circle has a radius of 14 cm. What is its area? Use pi = 22/7.
- A. 616 sq cm (answer)
- B. 88 sq cm
- C. 308 sq cm
- D. 1232 sq cm
Area = pi * r * r = (22/7) * 14 * 14 = 616 sq cm.
Example 5. A circle has a radius of 35 cm. What is its area? Use pi = 22/7.
- A. 3850 sq cm (answer)
- B. 7700 sq cm
- C. 220 sq cm
- D. 1925 sq cm
Area = pi * r * r = (22/7) * 35 * 35 = 3850 sq cm.
